Crack Cocaine & Heroin Seized in Trenton, New Jersey

A forty-nine year old male and a thirty-four year old female were arrested on drug charges this weekend in Trenton. According to the reports, the detectives from the Street Crimes Unit were paroling the 300 Block of Academy Street when they noticed the two Defendants parked in a car acting, as they claim, “suspiciously”. It is unclear at this point in time what the suspicious activity actually. While conducting their investigation and speaking to the Defendants they claim that the male attempted to toss three decks of heroin out of the motor vehicle. As a result, he was placed under arrest and charged with possession of heroin. Then the detectives allege that once they requested proof of identification from the passenger, they noticed several grams of crack cocaine located inside her purse. She was arrested as well and charged with possession of crack cocaine. Also uncovered was $1,676 in cash.

Based on the amount of money seized and the quantity of the drugs. The Mercer County prosecutor’s office may end up charging the Defendant’s with possession of heroin with the intent to distribute and possession of crack cocaine with the intent to distribute. Regardless, whether additional charges are tacked on or not, the Defendant’s will be facing third degree heroin and cocaine charges. Those types of offenses are punishable by up to five (5) years in a State Prison and a fine up to $35,000. In addition, a potential for a six month loss of licenses exists to.

Based on the information that has been provided so far,  it seems as if the Defendants may have a suppression issue with regards to the “stop” and “seizure” of the Defendants. It is unclear what in fact the “suspicious” activity was at this point in time but it may certainly prove to be problematic down the road.
