Heroin & Cocaine Discovered During Traffic Stop in Middletown NJ

According to app.com, the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Department discovered a large quantity of heroin and cocaine following a motor vehicle stop on the Garden State Parkway Thursday.

1200 Folds of Heroin and 22g of Cocaine Uncovered in Middletown

The Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office has announced that they have booked two Defendants on second degree drug charges in the Monmouth County Jail late last week. Based on the information that has been released at this point in time, the Defendants vehicle was pulled over on the Garden State Parkway near mile marker 109. Following a brief encounter, the driver of the vehicle, a thirty-seven year old male from Long Branch, consented to a search of the vehicle. During the search the officers uncovered 1,200 folds of heroin, 22 grams of powder cocaine and $4,500 in cash. As a result of their findings, both Defendants were charged with possession of heroin with the intent to distribute in the second degree and possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute in the second degree. The Defendants were taken to and booked in the Monmouth County Jail where they are pending a Detention Hearing. During this hearing the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office will be seeking to convince a Judge that the Defendants must remain in the Monmouth County Jail, without bail, pending trial. It has also been reported that not only was the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office involved in the investigation but so was the Federal Bureau of Investigations. Based on the parties involved, including the Monmouth County Sheriffs Department conducting the motor vehicle stop, it appears that the officers were well aware of what would be located in the vehicle prior to the stop.

Cocaine Distribution Charges in Monmouth County NJ

In New Jersey, the quantity of the drug in question will dictate what degree of a felony a Defendant is charged with when it comes drug distribution offenses, whether it be manufacturing, distributing or possessing with the intent to distribute. For instance, if a Defendant is caught possessing more than 5 ounces of cocaine or heroin, they will be charged with a first degree felony. If a Defendant is caught possessing less than 5 ounces but greater than 1/2 ounce of cocaine or heroin they will be charged with a second degree felony. Lastly, if a Defendant is caught possessing less than 1/2 ounce of cocaine or heroin they will be facing a third degree felony.
