Charged with Driving While Intoxicated in Bridgewater Township?

According to the patch.com, a twenty year old male from Basking Ridge was placed under arrest following a car crash on Brown Road in Bridgewater Township. The accident happened around 2 a.m. on June 15, 2019. Based on the investigation that was conducted on scene, presumably his performance on the standardized field sobriety tests (SFST), the individual was placed under arrest and brought back to the Bridgewater Police Department in order to submit a breath sample into the Alcotest Machine. The Alcotest Machine is the device that New Jersey police departments use to determine what an individual’s blood alcohol content is.  Based on those results, the individual was formally charged with several traffic summons, including driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, driving while intoxicated in a school zone and one criminal complaint for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Since the criminal offense is considered a disorderly persons offense, which is New Jersey’s version of a misdemeanor, all of the offenses will be transferred to the Bridgewater Municipal Court for disposition. The Bridgewater Municipal Court has original jurisdiction over all traffic matters as well as all disorderly and petty disorderly persons offenses that occur within the township. Provided this is the individual’s first offense for driving while intoxicated, he will be facing up a twelve month loss of license, imposition of the ignition interlock device, fees and assessments ranging up to $800, twelve hours of the ignition interlock device as well as up to thirty days in the Somerset County Jail. For the drug paraphernalia charge the individual will be facing up to six months in the Somerset County Jail, a fine up to $1,000, fees and assessments ranging up to $800, up to a two year loss of license as well as a criminal record.
