Police Charge Two with DUI in Bridgewater Within Three Days

2 Arrested on Suspicion of DUI within First Week of February in Bridgewater

On February 1st, a sixty-eight year old male from Warren Township was pulled over on Route 22 West for an alleged motor vehicle infraction. A further inquire by the officers on scene lead to the Defendant being placed under arrest and charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving as well as speeding. He was taken to the Bridgewater Police Department, processed and released on a summons to appear in the Bridgewater Municipal Court to answer for the charges.

Then on February 4th the Bridgewater Police were back at it yet again, this time arresting a thirty (30) year old women from Cranford under suspicion for driving under the influence. According to the reports, the Defendant was pulled over for failing to maintain her lane of traffic on Adamsville Road. Presumable the Defendant was put through several standardized field sobriety tests (SFST) and based on her performance, she was placed under arrest. She was formally charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving and failure to maintain traffic lane. She was processed and released on an ROR status from the Bridgewater Police Department. She has a pending court appearance in the Bridgewater Municipal Court as well to answer the charges.

New Jersey basically treats driving under the influence and driving while intoxicated offenses as one and the same for sentencing purposes. DUI / DWI charges are considered traffic offenses in New Jersey. However, that is about the only lenient thing that comes to DWI penalties.
