Middletown Case: Charges for Attempted Murder

Middletown Man Charged with Attempted Murder

It is unclear at this point in time what sparked the incident but the Middletown Police Department has announced that they have charged a fifty-two year old township resident with among other things, attempted murder and aggravated assault following an incident at Shadow Lake Village last Tuesday. According to information that has been released, it is alleged that the Defendant severely assaulted the victim, an eighty-one year old women, at her residence, the Shadow Lake Village, which is also an age-restricted community.  The women was taken to the Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune for treatment. Although the exact injuries have not been not been released yet it has been reported that the injuries were serious and that it was the Defendant’s intentions of killing the victim. Furthermore, no motive for the attack has been announced as of yet but it has been reported that the attack was random and that the Defendant new the victim.

The Defendant was most likely taken to the Monmouth County Jail where he awaits his Central Judicial Processing and Detention Hearing. At the Defendant’s Central Judicial Processing Hearing he will formally be advised of the charges levied against him and whether or not the prosecution is filling for a detention hearing. If a detention hearing is filed, the prosecution will be seeking to convince a judge that the Defendant must be detained in the Monmouth County Jail without bail, pending trial. Due the severity of the allegations, regardless of the outcome of the detention hearing, the prosecution will then most likely present the case to a Grand Jury as opposed to scheduling the matter for a Pre-Indictment Conference. in an effort to obtain an indictment against the Defendant. Once that occurs, the case will proceed through the traditional court proceedings.
