The Defendant allegedly switched up her weapon of choose, this time she used her vehicle as the weapon. She is alleged to have tried to run down her boyfriend as she raced down an alley near the 1000 block of South Broad Street in Trenton.\u00a0The Defendant was unable to get out of the way and actually ended up on the hood of the vehicle. As a result, the victim was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center for treatment. Following corroborating the incident with several eyewitnesses, the Defendant was taken into custody and charged with several offenses, including\u00a0assault by auto,\u00a0domestic violence aggravated assault,\u00a0unlawful possession of a weapon\u00a0and\u00a0possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. These are all indictable offenses, so they will be transferred to the\u00a0Mercer County Superior Court, which is also located in Trenton for disposition.Can I Obtain a Restraining Order if I am a Victim of Domestic Violence Assault in New Jersey?Based on the fact that this was a domestic dispute, the victim in the case would have the ability to file for what is known as a\u00a0temporary restraining order\u00a0(TRO). A\u00a0 temporary restraining order would strictly prohibit the Defendant from contacting the victim in any fashion pending a final restraining order (FRO). If successful at the FRO, the Defendant will forever be barred from contacting the victim in anyway. Restraining orders are separate and apart from the criminal charge and are in fact handled in the Family Division as opposed to the criminal division.
